Dread Scott CaseA Supreme Court decision in 1857 that held that African Americans could never be citizens of the United States and that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional. Scott sued for his freedom and went to the supreme court. The court ruled that a African Americans had no right to sue in Federal Courts. The Court also eliminated the Missouri compromise, making slavery legal in all territories.
