Lincoln-Douglas DebatesA series of political debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, who were candidates in the Illinois race for United States Senator, in which slavery was the main issue. Southerners wanted to expand slavery to the entire country. Lincoln wanted to prevent expanding slavery to new states and Douglas wanted the people to decide if a state would have slavery or not.
